Tips For Resting Better When Traveling
A favorite pillow can make travel more comfortable
SAN FRANCISCO, April 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Getting good quality rest during travel is important to ward off the headaches, fatigue and decreased concentration caused by sleep loss. Traveling is fun but it can be exhausting with the stress of airplane travel and road-trip driving, unfamiliar surroundings and uncomfortable beds and pillows.
There are ways to avoid sleep loss on the road: stay hydrated, eat the right foods, get outdoors and set your body clock to your destination's time zone as quickly as possible. And remember to bring along a favorite sleep-time item – such as a pillow or blanket – for a more restful sleep.
According to McRoskey Mattress Company President Robin McRoskey Azevedo, having the right pillow contributes to a good night's rest at home and when traveling. McRoskey's two signature travel pillows - the Camille and the Mini JetSetter - easily fit into a suitcase or briefcase.
The versatile 14" X 20" down Camille pillow with pillowcase -- also used as a neck pillow, nursing pillow and laptop pillow -- is available in a medium firmness and retails for $100.
The Camille's earliest recorded use as a travel pillow was written by Joseph B. Niderost, father-in-law of McRoskey founder Edward McRoskey, Azevedo's grandfather. Niderost was on the SS Savoi on a transatlantic voyage from New York to his homeland, Brunnen, Switzerland. Dated June 19, 1908, the journal entry read, "After breakfast, I went up on deck, took my little pillow that my friend, Mr. Ed. McRoskey gave me when I left San Francisco, and laid on my steamer chair, which made it very comfortable for my head."
The neck-hugging boomerang-shaped JetSetter Mini is made of with Egyptian cotton and filled with 650-fill power Hungarian goose down. It comes with an embroidered washable protector and an aromatic sachet. Made to order at the Pillow Bar at McRoskey's Palo Alto location, the JetSetter Mini retails for $75.
