NEW YORK, March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tina's Wish, the only nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to funding research for the early detection of ovarian cancer, announced today that it will honor President Bill Clinton with the inaugural Tina's Wish Global Women's Health Award at a reception on Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m. at The Waldorf Astoria New York.

"The Tina's Wish Global Women's Health Award was created to honor individuals whose contributions to the betterment of women's health have been extraordinary," said Andrew Brozman, Tina's husband and member of the board of directors of Tina's Wish. "Both Tina's Wish and the Clinton Foundation were founded on the principle that turning an idea into action is best done through collaboration. We are proud to have President Bill Clinton as our first recipient."

After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the Clinton Foundation with the mission to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote health and wellness, and protect the environment.

Established in 2008, Tina's Wish has raised more than $5.5 million for ovarian cancer research grants and created the Tina Brozman Ovarian Cancer Research Consortium which brings together scientists from five world-class institutions for collaborative research on early detection and prevention. In just six years, Tina's Wish has become the third largest private funding source dedicated to ovarian cancer research.

The majority of ovarian cancer patients are identified in advanced stages due to lack of symptoms and no available tests for early detection. On average, 27 percent of patients diagnosed during Stage III/IV will survive for five years, compared to 92 percent of women diagnosed during Stage I, proving that tools for early detection are critical to changing the global impact of the disease.

Tina's Wish honors the memory of Tina Brozman, former chief judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, who died at the age of 54 following a two-year battle with ovarian cancer.
