TimberTech Deck Expert Steve Senzatimore to Appear on "Taste of New York" TV Show
FARMINGDALE, N.Y., Nov. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Steve Senzatimore, owner of Easy Decks in Farmingdale, NY, recently wrapped up taping "A Taste of New York" TV segment on the advantages of composite materials for outdoor living spaces. For the segment, he used TimberTech's Earthwood Evolutions Terrain decking, an affordable "capped" composite that has a composite core, but with a protective shell encapsulating the board for added fade and stain resistance. The show is scheduled to air in early spring of 2014 on New York's Time Warner cable Channel 79, Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
Senzatimore built the show deck in October and November and advises homeowners not to be deterred by Autumn's early darkness and chilly weather. In fact, he says the Fall season can be the best time to build a deck with low-maintenance, durable materials that will easily endure the approaching winter months. To get started, he recommends some innovative ideas on extending the deck season or getting a great deal on a new deck in the fall. Homeowners may even be tempted to serve the Thanksgiving turkey on the deck this year, which could be a lifesaver if indoor space is limited.
With Fall's earlier and longer hours of darkness, strategically placed outdoor accent lighting on the deck, stairs and railings help illuminate the deck and backyard. According to Senzatimore, deck lighting can also enhance the mood within your outdoor space. "I use TimberTech's DeckLites, which offers a lot of options," he says. "Some rail lights provide a downward glow for atmosphere, while others provide safe illumination of stairs. Quality deck lighting can definitely extend your outdoor entertaining throughout the fall season and the only limitations are cost and your imagination."
As the nights get chillier, keep the outdoor fun going by maintaining a level of warmth for comfort on the deck. "During the cool evening hours, a viable option would be a cost-effective outdoor heating system," he explains. "There are several choices on the market that start as low as a few hundred dollars – from high efficiency electric, to liquid propane and natural gas options."
"Homeowners who start their deck project in the fall will find that with falling temperatures come falling deck installation costs," says Senzatimore. He explains that contractors are not nearly as busy, so deck building costs can be much lower. And with the natural-looking "capped" composites on the market, winter's wear and tear is not such a worry. "Many homeowners who choose wood for their decks feel pressured to build in in the spring, because that's the last time it's going to look brand new — they want a fresh wood deck before Mother Nature has her way with it," he says. TimberTech's capped composites are backed by a 25-year fade and stain warranty.
"With today's composite materials, a deck built in the fall will just need a good cleaning in the spring to look like the day it was installed," adds Senzatimore.
Whether you add lights and heaters, or even a whole new deck, homeowners can get the most out of their composite decks in the fall with many of these latest outdoor innovations. According to Senzatimore, by taking the creature comforts of the indoors outside, homeowners can enjoy their outdoor room right into Thanksgiving.
