Timberland Inspires Random Acts of Earthkeeping at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival
Official Footwear and Outerwear Sponsor Encourages Consumers to Celebrate Living Green with Earth-friendly On-site and Social Media Activities
STRATHAM, N.H., Jan. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As Official Footwear and Outerwear Sponsor for the fourth consecutive year, Timberland today shared exciting new information about activities planned for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, as part of the brand's Fade to Green platform. Fade to Green was designed to serve as a reminder that, like Timberland, film goes beyond commerce to celebrate innovation, self expression and style. To raise awareness and inspire action around earthkeeping, Timberland will reward consumers for their commitment to the environment and protecting the outdoors through on-site activities in Park City and online activations via Twitter and Facebook. The Festival runs from January 19 – 29, 2012 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
"We've designed our presence at this year's Sundance Film Festival around our longstanding philosophy of 'doing well and doing good,' to help affect real change and create a more sustainable world." said Maile Buker, senior director of marketing for Timberland North America. "By engaging with attendees of the Festival as well as the folks following along at home, and encouraging them to share the positive ways they work to preserve the earth, we're able to connect as a caring community and inspire those looking for simple ways they can make an impact."
Hitting the Green Scene
At the Timberland Green Scene space in Park City, festival-goers will have the opportunity to pledge Random Acts of Earthkeeping – the small things they do each day to minimize their impact on the environment – and pose for fun photos with their favorite green activity prop for a chance to take home a limited-edition Timberland® scarf. Followers at home can also participate by sharing their pledges with @Timberland on Twitter using the hashtag #Sundance to enter to win one of these iconic scarves. Beginning Thursday, January 19 through Saturday, January 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., consumers can stop by the Green Scene at 608 Main Street to share how they intend to do their part, as well as view the brand's latest styles of boots and shoes – including its most eco-minded collection, Earthkeepers™. In addition to great style and performance for the outdoors, these boots also include green features such as recycled linings, leathers from silver- and gold-rated tanneries (receiving high marks for their environmental practices), organic cotton laces, and Green Rubber™ outsoles made from 42 percent recycled rubber, perfect for the snowy streets of Utah.
Gearing Up for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival
For consumers looking to get a stylish edge on their fellow festival-goers, Timberland will host a special event at retail boutique Mary Jane's at 613 Main Street on Sunday, January 22, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees can check out the latest footwear and accessories from Timberland, while creating and capturing a personalized look with a stylist in a fun, mini-photo shoot. Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served during the event, which is open to the public and free of charge.
In support of the Festival's celebrated filmmakers – many of whom hail from warmer climates – Timberland will be outfitting all filmmakers with warm, outdoor-proven Rime Ridge Waterproof Boots for men and Crystal Mountain Waterproof Boots for women, as well as exclusive co-branded winter jackets for comfort, style and protection from the Park City elements. And not to forget the important individuals behind-the-scenes who keep the Festival running, Timberland will also provide winter gloves to more than 2,000 Festival volunteers and staff.
Additionally, throughout the Fall 2011 season, consumers were asked to create their own red carpet-inspired looks at a series of Timberland Sundance Film Festival Style Night Out events held in cities across the U.S. Event guests and consumers at home were encouraged to submit a photo of their favorite outdoor style expression to the Timberland Sundance Film Festival Girlfriend Getaway Sweepstakes on Facebook for a chance to win an all-expense paid trip for four to the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, courtesy of Southwest Airlines, The Chateaux at Silver Lake and Deer Valley® Resort. The lucky winner – Charisse Arce of Seattle, WA – and her three friends will be joining Timberland in Park City, attending film screenings, making memories of their own with a new camera, hitting the slopes at Deer Valley, and posing for a personal outdoor photo shoot equipped with Timberland® footwear, apparel and accessories to keep them stylish, warm and comfortable.
Anyone wishing to purchase Timberland® gear during the festival can head to Park City Clothing Company (558 Main Street), or Mary Jane's (613 Main Street). Both stores will be stocked with the brand's best outdoor offerings for winter, so individuals can stay warm, stylish and protected from the elements. Those who can't attend the festival can also join in the action by picking up gear at timberland.com, and following live updates on Twitter by following @Timberland and on the Timberland Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/timberland.
