TiaLinx, Inc. Announces Availability of W-band Semiconductor Components for Point-to-Point Giga Scale Communications as Well as Advanced Miniaturized Radar Applications
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TiaLinx, Inc., a developer of remotely controlled small unmanned aerial and ground systems integrated with mm-wave miniaturized radars today announced launch of its Cheetah Core W-band components for point-to-point (PtP) gigabit per second (Gbps) links. TiaLinx's ultra wideband (UWB) components were developed by a SBIR Phase II funding from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA).
Significant attenuations due to the long distance between PtP links and adverse atmospheric conditions require use of high power, small footprint, fine beam transmitter and receiver as a replacement for costly and cumbersome to implement fiber links. E- and W-bands are the ideal choices for implementation of a highly integrated planar PtP gigabit Ethernet (GbE) transceiver. Putting an unmanned aerial system (UAS) below and above commercial air traffic where they could hover, float, or fly above desired fields would also provide rapid fielding connectivity as well as addressing advanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.
"W-band Cheetah Core components implementation is intended to provide another breakthrough in miniaturization of advanced communications and ISR products based on TiaLinx's patent portfolio in spatial power combining and beamforming," commented Dr. Fred Mohamadi, Founder and CEO of TiaLinx. "TiaLinx's advancement in design of the Si-based W-band components pegs on our significant experience accumulated over decades of semiconductor design activity at extreme frequencies," commented Dr. Mehran Mokhtari, Chief Scientist at TiaLinx.

About TiaLinx, Inc.
TiaLinx, Inc. is a privately held company that develops advanced electronic modules with very small form factor, highly integrated functionality and advanced performance for wide range of military and commercial applications. Utilizing its 45 granted patents and many more pending patent applications, specifically related to the on-chip and wafer-scale beamforming and phased arrays, and high-power miniaturized mm-wave power amplifiers and transmitters, the Company is uniquely positioned to supply robust Planar PtP Communications transceivers as well as radar based systems. Since 2006, TiaLinx has received 7 Phase II and CPP awards from various government agencies.
TiaLinx was ranked as one of the top 3 companies performing advanced research projects sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) during the DARPATech 2005.
The Company was selected as recipient of the U.S. Army's Commercial Pilot Program award in 2009. Twenty-five companies were selected out of the 487 recipients of the phase II awards. Within the top twenty-five companies selected, TiaLinx was the only recipient with the advanced radio frequency imaging technology for sense-through-the-wall applications.
TiaLinx was also the recipient of the 2010 Defense News Technology and Innovation Award for its Eagle5-P product selected by a panel of experts who recognized recent advances in defense technologies by U.S. companies and defense agencies. In all, the panel considered more than 80 nominations of products that came to market last year.
On December 2010, VME and Critical Systems recognized the high-power V-band transmitter and receiver of TiaLinx as Editor's Product of Choice.
Live performances of TiaLinx's products have been extensively covered by Microwave Journal, History Channel's "Modern Marvels," and Reuters.
