CORONADO, Calif., May 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating the life of Charles Keating IV, Coronado-based surf brand, URT, has designed a shirt in memory of the late Navy Special Warfare officer. All proceeds will benefit two non-profit organizations: One More Wave Surf Corp, an organization that provides customized instruction, aquatic gear and surfboards for wounded or disabled veterans and the Navy SEAL Foundation, an organization that provides immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Navy Special Warfare Community and its families.
Keating resided in Coronado, California where he was introduced to URT and embraced the brand wholeheartedly, exemplifying its mission to welcome each and every person to experience the true joy that the ocean can bring. On May 3, 2016, Keating was sadly killed in combat during a battle against ISIS. To honor his life, devotion to the ocean and love for those around him, his family requested URT create 1,500 shirts to hand out for free at Keating's memorial service because of Charlie's close friendship with URT's founder. Due to overwhelming support from the local community and the likes of PGA Golf professional Rickie Fowler and the San Diego Padres, URT and the Keating family decided to promote fundraising efforts by making the "Chuck Heavy" shirt available for purchase to the general public, granting all proceeds be donated to One More Wave Surf Corp and the Navy SEAL Foundation.
"Chuck was the godfather of URT. He supported our mission so much so that he brought little pieces of the brand, like the URT patch, with him on deployments to share with his teammates and to always have a part of home with him, so it was the least we could do to create a shirt to celebrate our dearest supporter, best friend and hero," explained Ian Urtnowski, founder of URT. "The proceeds from the shirt are perpetuating Charlie's life passions and allowing his wounded brothers to enjoy the catalyst that sparked the beginning of this story – the ocean."
Keating's armed silhouette, including an URT patch, adorns the back of the shirt and his initials, "CK IV" simply decorate the front. Shirts can be purchased at URTURT.com for $25 with all proceeds going to the aforementioned charitable organizations.
One More Wave Surf Corp, a San Diego-based foundation, reinforces the shirt's mission to commemorate Keating's love for URT by providing recreational aquatic gear to wounded vets.
"Surfing and the ocean in general is a therapeutic escape for veterans. Here at One More Wave Surf Corp, we want to ensure all veterans can experience the tranquility the ocean offers," said Alex West, One More Wave Surf Corp founder and Armed Services veteran. "Charlie Keating's bravery is allowing us to give what he loved so much to other veterans."
