Thrive DC Selected as Featured Non-Profit in 2012-2013 Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington
WASHINGTON, July 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Thrive DC, a non-profit dedicated to helping homeless, hungry and vulnerable individuals in the DC metropolitan area, is pleased to announce its inclusion in the Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington for 2012-13. Thrive DC is one of 74 outstanding non-profits selected by a panel of over 100 expert reviewers from area foundations, corporate giving programs, and peer non-profit organizations.
The Catalogue's mission is to connect caring citizens with worthy community causes – more than 25,000 individuals and hundreds of family foundations will receive copies of the print Catalogue in November, and others will visit the Catalogue website (cfp-dc.org), or access the Catalogue's customized portal at work. The online Catalogue also connects donors with volunteer opportunities, events, news, videos, and more.
"The Catalogue inspires extraordinary partnerships between active, well-informed donors and hard-working, effective organizations," said Alicia Horton, Executive Director, Thrive DC. "It's a terrific resource for donors, offering reliable information about non-profits who are truly making a difference in the community, as well as assurance that contributions will have a meaningful, direct impact."
With a range of communication channels including direct mail catalogues, innovative online portals, special events and social media, the Catalogue aims to build networks of engaged donors and great non-profits that will make a difference in new ways, on their terms. It also provides charities with a stamp of approval that tells donors they can invest with confidence because the Catalogue vets its family of non-profits with great care.
"Charities were selected for excellence, cost-effectiveness, and impact," said Barbara Harman, President and Editor of the Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington. "These are certainly among the best community-based non-profits in the Washington region."
"Many non-profits continue to suffer during the slow economic recovery, and the search for support has been intensified by the loss of government (and sometimes of foundation) funding," Harman continued. "Individual donors can continue to make a real difference, keeping great organizations afloat during these challenging times."
Now in its tenth year, the Catalogue tracked $2,792,000 in 2010-11 donations, $1,335,000 to date in 2011-12 (and counting), and $17,667,000 since its inception.
Thrive DC is dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness by providing vulnerable individuals with a comprehensive range of services including nutritious meals, emergency services, job training and long-term support.
