Thrive DC Partners with Mio Restaurant to "Dine and Do Good"
Guest Chef Event Leads to 'Real Opportunity' through Thrive DC's Employment Program
WASHINGTON, May 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Thrive DC, a non-profit dedicated to helping homeless, hungry and vulnerable individuals in the DC metropolitan area, will partner with award-winning Mio Restaurant to "Dine and Do Good" on Saturday May 19, 2012. In one evening, diners could help Thrive DC raise enough to meet the emergency needs of more than 1,700 homeless or at-risk individuals.
A thriving partnership now in its third year, "Dine and Do Good" will feature a prix fixe menu highlighting the culinary expertise of two Thrive DC board members. Thrive DC receives a portion of the proceeds for each meal served.
"We're thrilled to partner with Mio for what promises to be a terrific dining experience and an opportunity to make a real difference for some of our community's most vulnerable individuals," said Alicia Horton, Thrive DC Executive Director.
Through partnering with Mio, Thrive DC will also create Real Opportunity for its clients. The Real Opportunity program provides individuals with comprehensive support, rigorous training and life-skills coaching to help them enter the workforce and become self-sufficient. Mio Restaurant shares Thrive DC's commitment to ending the cycle of homelessness, and will be participating as a training location for the 2012 program.
