RESTON, Va., Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ThreatTrack Security – a leader in cyber threat prevention solutions that substantially change how organizations respond to cyberattacks – today announced that President and CEO Julian Waits, Sr. has been appointed to the board of the National Cybersecurity Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Advisory Board. The board is part of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), aimed at developing a pipeline of technologically skilled and cyber-savvy cybersecurity industry employees.
This past April, ThreatTrack Security officially joined the STEM Education Coalition, and Waits became one of several leaders from academia, the security industry and government recently drawn together for a year-round effort called NICE365, tasked with accelerating cybersecurity and STEM education across the nation. Board members will be lending their expertise and insights to develop a Cyber Security Education Ecosystem that will create a future workforce armed with the critical skills needed to protect the U.S. and its economy from increasingly sophisticated attacks on financial institutions, private enterprises and critical infrastructure.
"The increasing frequency and complexity of cyberattacks have created an unprecedented opportunity for future generations of cybersecurity employees," said Waits. "Unfortunately, the vast majority of our middle schools, high schools and even universities do not offer formal classes or information on cybersecurity as a career path. The key to stopping cyberattacks will only be found by bringing together leaders from academia, industry and government, and that's exactly why this board was created. NICE365 will inspire the next generation of technology employees to pursue critical skills needed to drive our cybersecurity and STEM future."
"The NICE365 Advisory Board highlights the dedication of our corporate board members to address the growing need for career-relevant STEM education in our high schools and community colleges, starting with cybersecurity," said Rick Geritz, Chair of NICE365. "Supporting teachers and schools of all types as they prepare the future STEM workforce is essential, especially as cybersecurity becomes one of the biggest challenges facing our nation and the world."
NICE evolved from the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative, and extends its scope beyond the federal workplace to include civilians and students in kindergarten through post-graduate school. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is leading the NICE initiative working from the strengths and energy of more than 20 federal departments and agencies, to ensure coordination, cooperation, focus, public engagement, technology transfer and sustainability. Many NICE activities are already underway and NIST will highlight these activities, engage various stakeholder groups and create forums for sharing information and leveraging best practices.
