Threat of PC Sales Decline No Fret to Lenovo - Research Report on Lenovo Group Limited
With the invasion of smartphones and tablets, PCs might soon become obsolete; but Lenovo Group Ltd Lenovo Group Limited is taking action
NEW YORK, January 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Along with the launch of Windows 8, new generations of computers, laptops, and tablets that are optimized for this OS are also being introduced. Lenovo (OTC: LNVGY) [Full Research Report][1], a Hong Kong based US$21 billion personal technology company and the world's second-largest PC vendor, just announced their latest products, the IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC, a 27-inch interpersonal PC touch tablet, and a large 39-inch wide-screen Table PC, codenamed "Gamma," at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show.
The IdeaCentre Horizon is a Windows 8-optimized tablet, which is a multi-user device intended to create a "shared computing experience." This 17-pound tablet could be placed horizontally and supports multi-touch at ten points. It can be conventionally used as a Windows 8 desktop but will automatically present an exclusive Aura interface when placed horizontally, thus allowing multi-users to play games and study, perfect for the whole family or a group of friends.
Gamma, on the other hand, is still an early concept. It illustrates the outstanding multi-user entertainment experiences that a large screen can provide and is indicative of Lenovo's future direction in Table PC computing.
"We've seen technology shifts across the four screens, from the desktop to the laptop, tablet, and smartphone, and yet, while people have more computing power than ever before, there is still room for technologies like Horizon that bring people together. Horizon makes personal computing interpersonal computing with shared, collaborative experiences among several people," said Peter Hortensius, president of the Product Group of Lenovo. "Now many people can enjoy different photos, music, and video on the same screen, and they can play games with our special accessories that blend physical and digital interaction. Horizon reflects our commitment to delivering the innovative products that define the PC Plus era."
Lenovo CEO, Yang Yuanqing, said that these innovations made by the company allow it to see favorable increase in market shares. In the last quarter of 2012, there has been a decline in PC sales due to the continuing influx of tablets and smartphones. The decline is also due to the fact that there are very seldom PCs that can run on Windows 8 OS. Considering all these factors, Lenovo is outwardly prepared for this change, thus the IdeaCentre Horizon and the Gamma. "Now we are nurturing new areas including smartphones and tablets," Yang said. "We have focused on this change for many years. We have prepared for this trend." While all the other producers develop their products to be more personal, Lenovo takes the opposite route, to bring people together.
