Thousands to Gather for the 8th Annual Santa Monica Classic 5K/10K

LOS ANGELES, May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- This Sunday, May 19^th, more than 3,000 runners will toe the start line in Santa Monica for the eighth annual Santa Monica Classic. The event, which includes both a 5K and a 10K race, will once again support the conservation efforts of Heal the Bay.

The 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m., and a 10K race at 8:00 a.m. Runners will follow a scenic point-to-point course along the streets of Santa Monica that ends just steps away from the world-famous Santa Monica Pier. Arrowhead® Brand 100% Mountain Spring Water will be available along the course and at the finish line. All finishers will be given an ASICS finisher t-shirt and for the second year in a row, they will also receive a pair of wayfarer style sunglasses that are quickly becoming a hallmark of the race.

The post-race expo at the Santa Monica Pier will capture all the excitement of race day, with a DJ providing an energetic musical backdrop throughout the morning. At the NutriBullet Blast Bar, participants can learn how to make their own Nutriblast, try a sample and have a chance to purchase a Nutribullet or Nutribullet SuperFoods. Racers can also relax with free massages from LA Sports Massage and check out a number of vendors promoting the latest in nutrition, sports fashion and fitness, including FrontRunners, SportsFit, AMAzon Coco Teas, American Laser and Five Star Organics.

At the post-race award ceremony, the top three male and female finishers in each race will receive an ASICS gift card for a pair of ASICS Blur33 2.0 running shoes. The overall first place finishers of both the 5K and 10K races will win a unique recycled glass trophy. In addition, the top three finishers in each age division (both male and female) will receive a medal. Finally, the winner of each age division, along with the overall winners, will receive their very own NutriBullet.

There's still time to join the fun this Sunday. Registration and pre-race packet pick-up will be available on Saturday, May 18^th, at FrontRunners from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 11620 San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood. Those who attend the packet pick-up on Saturday will be entered to win a FrontRunners Custom Fitting Experience and can take advantage of the store's annual sale that includes 20% off footwear and apparel. Registration will also be available near the start line at 2600 Barnard Way in Santa Monica beginning at 6:30 a.m. on race day. Late registration will be $45 for both the 5K and 10K.
