Campaign urges citizens to reflect on self-governance and freedom on Independence Day
HILLSDALE, Mich., July 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Hillsdale College encourages Americans nationwide to celebrate the birth of the nation by pledging to read aloud the Declaration of Independence during their July 4 festivities. Hillsdale College's "Read the Declaration" campaign encourages Americans across the country to reflect on the principles and fundamental freedoms set forth in the Declaration.
"Thousands of Americans have taken Hillsdale's pledge to read the Declaration of Independence," said Bill Gray, director of marketing for Hillsdale College. "It's encouraging for all who love liberty to see so many people taking this pledge. After all, the Declaration is one of the most important documents in history since it lays out the principles of human freedom better than anything else yet written. I'm hopeful that we'll have even more people take this pledge before July 4."
Those who wish to take the pledge, or to see how many have taken it already, can visit https://www.hillsdale.edu/read-declaration-independence/ and digitally sign their names. The College will send a free digital copy of the Declaration of Independence to all who take the pledge.
