ThoughtWorks to Open Software Delivery Center in Brazil's Emerging Porto Digital Technology Park in Recife
Company strengthens operations and commitment to emerging technology communities in Brazil after highly successful expansion in Porto Alegre
CHICAGO and PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil, May 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ThoughtWorks, a global leader in custom software development, today announced it will open its second software delivery center in Brazil, with a new office in the Porto Digital technology park in Recife. The company, with a thriving 120-person operation in Porto Alegre in southern Brazil, selected Recife because of its wealth of technology talent, the growing demand for its Brazil-based services and its social commitment to support the revitalization of this rich and historic capital city of the Pernambuco state.
"I can't express how rewarding it has been for ThoughtWorks to play a contributing role in the technology growth and leadership that is occurring in Brazil today," said Amit A. Kaul, general manager of ThoughtWorks Brazil. "Opening our new center in the Porto Digital area of Recife will infuse new talent to support our commitment to software excellence, help expand our global capabilities and reinforce our corporate mission of social responsibility at both a human and business level."
ThoughtWorks' new Recife office will become part of the growing and vibrant Porto Digital technology business park in this coastal, northeastern city of Brazil. It is part of a revitalization effort to preserve the culture of the city's historic port district and to provide opportunity for the young technology talent that graduates from the Federal University of Pernambuco, home to one of the best computer-science departments in Latin America. To date, there are more than 84 technology startups generating revenues in excess of $100 million, while providing professional employment for more than 2,000 people.
"ThoughtWorks operates and contributes its resources as a member of the global technology community, and our expansion in Brazil supports our ongoing commitment to build a sustainable business that fosters growth and opportunity locally," said Craig Gorsline, managing director of ThoughtWorks Americas. "We look forward to continued success in Brazil and to expanding our footprint throughout Latin America during the coming years."
ThoughtWorks Brazil is an important part of the firm's strategic growth plan, which includes continued support for software excellence by expanding into regions beyond its existing operations in North America, Europe, India, Africa, China and Australia. Brazil is important due to the country's wealth of highly skilled information technology workers, its commitment to the advancement of emerging technologies, such as dynamic languages, and its support for the advancement of open source software. In addition to its new Porto Digital delivery center and its current facility in Porto Alegre, ThoughtWorks also plans to establish an office in Sao Paulo.
