Software to create better outcomes for people with diabetes
CHICAGO, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ThoughtWorks, the global custom software experts, completed a project with the International Diabetes Center ("IDC") that is expected to accelerate the diabetes industry movement towards common reporting standards for its physicians, educators and patients. This initiative was funded by a grant to IDC from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust ("the Helmsley Charitable Trust").
"Managing a chronic disease becomes almost a part-time job for those affected," said Richard Bergenstal, MD, Executive Director of IDC and former President, Medicine and Science, for the American Diabetes Association. "A standard report for people with diabetes would mean better decision making and improved doctor-patient communication. The work with ThoughtWorks is a useful tool that moves us closer towards that goal."
Over the course of 2012, ThoughtWorks worked with clinicians, researchers and a technical team at IDC to develop the capturAGP (Version 3) software solution. CapturAGP takes blood glucose data from glucose monitoring devices and converts it into a standard report, allowing physicians to analyze patterns and evaluate how well medications are controlling a patient's blood glucose. The scope of the project included requirements gathering and culminated in an easy-to-read application that will be used in an upcoming research study to evaluate the application and usability of the capturAGP report and Web application.
"ThoughtWorks prides itself on not only working on technologically challenging projects, but also those that make a difference socially and economically. Everyone associated with this project from ThoughtWorks was proud to be involved. We look forward to further work by IDC and the Helmsley Charitable Trust to improve the lives of people with diabetes globally," said Craig Gorsline, ThoughtWorks Managing Director for the Americas.
