Thomson Reuters Honors Pitney Bowes for Improving Healthcare Quality and Business Performance
ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomson Reuters announced today that it presented the 2012 Healthcare Advantage Award for Overall Performance to Pitney Bowes, a global leader in customer communications software, technology, and services.
The award was presented on May 9, 2012, during the annual gathering of Thomson Reuters healthcare customers, the Healthcare Advantage Conference, in Orlando, Florida. The Advantage Awards recognize hospitals, health plans, government agencies, and employers that use data analytics to improve the quality of care and business results.
Pitney Bowes was honored for implementing a pilot communications program that used worksite managers to help champion wellness, disease management, and other coaching programs across the workforce in the company's Presort division. Leveraging the managers' role as a trusted source of information, Pitney Bowes was able to help control ever-increasing medical and drug costs by reinforcing healthy lifestyle choices and proper benefit utilization. As a result of the increased awareness generated by this program, the company was able to 'bend the trend' with a 16 percent decrease in healthcare spending in this division.
In addition, employee health has improved. Clinical indicators showed across-the-board improvement, with increased screening rates, better biometric measures, and a decrease in short-term disability and workers' compensation payments.
"We are honored to be recognized by Thomson Reuters," said Mary Bradley, director of health care planning at Pitney Bowes. "Tapping into their integrated database has allowed us to implement sustainable steps that will enable our employees to understand their health risks and access the right level of care, contributing to their long-term health and productivity."
A $5.3 billion global company that helps two million businesses communicate more effectively with their customers, Pitney Bowes boasts a 92-year history. A member of the Fortune 500, Pitney Bowes employs more than 28,000 ethnically diverse employees around the globe.
"Pitney Bowes' diligent work to improve the quality of healthcare demonstrates a commitment to their employees' careers and overall health," said Mike Boswood, president and CEO of the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters.
