Thomson Reuters CompuMark Adds Industrial Designs to SAEGIS Trademark Platform
Brand Owners Can Search 17 Industrial Design Databases with Over 9 Million Design Patents to Prioritize Protection and Limit Exposure to Infringement
NORTH QUINCY, Mass., Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomson Reuters CompuMark, a Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property & Science business and global leader in trademark searching and brand protection solutions, today announced the addition of Industrial Designs to its SAEGIS® platform. The Industrial Designs database offers brand owners a fast and cost-effective avenue to get critical information about registered design patents.
"We live in an era when the look and feel of a consumer product can sometimes be as important as a logo or brand name when it comes to ensuring a branded consumer experience," said David Brown, managing director, Thomson Reuters IP Solutions. "Design is an enormously powerful piece of intellectual property that has historically been very difficult to vet in the trademark clearance process. With our new Industrial Designs solution, there is now a clear-cut, rules-based set of tools to accurately and efficiently search the registered design universe to make certain a brand's unique look and feel is protected."
Industrial Designs gives Thomson Reuters CompuMark customers the ability to easily discover critical insight into existing product designs. It combs through 17 different databases including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, China, Registered Community Design and the International Register, as well as three countries exclusive to Thomson Reuters: Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. It also provides access to over nine million designs to help quickly establish intelligence on design patent filings. The new databases limit a company's exposure to brand infringement and maximize protection of its intellectual assets by screening a product's distinctive shape and design features early in the process.
The design data allows users to review, filter and sort through patent designs, as well as access summarized views and make notations alongside trademark results. A Custom Search tool is also available, enabling clients to incorporate Industrial Designs in one report with other SAEGIS results, flag and comment on findings, and create custom reports for internal distribution.
Industrial Designs is powered by the Thomson Reuters SAEGIS on SERION® platform, the world's largest provider of comprehensive, searchable trademark screening data covering 186 countries and registrars. Utilizing robust features such as global company names, domain names with reverse WhoIS and industrial designs, SAEGIS provides a holistic view of all potential trademark risks. With more than 40 years of trademark search, clearance and watch experience, Thomson Reuters CompuMark protects nearly all of the world's top brands and is used by leading trademark attorneys in corporations and law firms around the globe.
