Thompson & Knight Welcomes Tax Partner to Mexico City Office

DALLAS, Oct. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Thompson & Knight LLP today announced Partner Mario Barrera has joined the Firm's Mexico City office in the Tax Practice Group.

"Mario's nearly 20 years of experience counseling clients on domestic and international tax law will complement and expand upon our existing breadth of expertise."

Mr. Barrera focuses his practice on domestic and cross-border tax advisory, planning, and strategy. He represents clients before tax authorities in non-litigation procedures such as tax audits, administrative appeals, settlements, and mutual agreement procedures. Mr. Barrera also has experience handling tax treaties, transfer pricing, and corporate reorganizations.

Recognized for his legal work, Mr. Barrera has been selected for inclusion in Who's Who Legal: Corporate Tax (2015; 2017) as a leading tax attorney and in International Who's Who of Corporate Tax Lawyers (2012). He has authored numerous papers for specialized journals including Tax Notes International, Puntos Finos, IDC, and Practical Mexican Tax Strategies, and is a frequent speaker and lecturer on Tax Law. He is actively involved in various professional organizations, including the International Fiscal Association; The Asociacion Nacional de Abogados de Empresa, A. C. ; The Harvard Club of Mexico; The Colegio Nacional de Economistas, A. C. Transfer Pricing Commission; and The Harvard Law School Student Association, A. C.

Mr. Barrera received his law degree (J.D. equivalent), summa cum laude, from the Universidad de las Americas in 1999, graduated from the International Tax Program at Harvard Law School in 2000, and obtained a Master of Laws in Taxation, summa cum laude, from Universidad Panamericana in 2002. He is a native Spanish speaker, proficient in English, and advanced in French.

Immediately prior to joining Thompson & Knight, Mr. Barrera was a Partner with Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C. in Mexico City. He is licensed to practice in Mexico.
