Thompson & Knight Expands Second Annual Legal Internship Pipeline Program for Dallas ISD Students

DALLAS, Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Thompson & Knight LLP's legal internship pipeline program, designed to encourage Dallas ISD students to pursue careers in the legal field, this year doubled in size.

"Due to the success of last year's program, we wanted to give more students the opportunity to experience what the legal profession has to offer," said Nichole Dotson-Olajuwon, the Firm's Chief Diversity Officer. "The program supports diversity and inclusion, a cornerstone of our Firm, by offering internships to students from racially, ethnically, and economically diverse backgrounds."

During the six-week internship, students shadowed various attorneys and staff members at the Firm to learn about different legal industry roles. Interns were guided through the process by an attorney mentor.

"Thompson & Knight's expansion of its legal internship pipeline program is a testament to the Firm's long-time support of the District and dedication to offering career development opportunities to local high school students," said Dr. Sylvia Reyna, Chief of School Leadership for Dallas ISD. "Through this internship program, Thompson & Knight is giving our students invaluable hands-on, real-word experience in the legal profession which will be vital in helping these students to decide their future career paths."

This year Bre'Ann Geter and Tyffany Robles, both of whom interned at the Firm last year, and Branlon Allen and Jennifer Romero participated. Robles, a Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet graduate, will attend the University of North Texas this fall and hopes to attend law school. Geter, a James Madison High School graduate, this fall will attend Texas Southern University and major in Criminal Justice. Allen, a rising senior at James Madison High School, hopes to attend Baylor. Romero, a rising senior at Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet, hopes to attend Columbia University and become an attorney.
