Celebrate jet-setting Jubilee journeys in 2012
The Queen must have air miles to die for, after flying to 129 different countries during her illustrious reign.
Thanks to the advent of air travel Queen Elizabeth II is arguably one of the most widely travelled monarchs in history.
In fact the Queen actually succeeded to the throne, while on a tour of Kenya, a trip which had set the standard for a woman who would spend a great deal of her time during the next 60 years travelling the world, meeting her subjects and representing the UK on both state and commonwealth visits.
Strangely despite being so well travelled the Queen, has never had a holiday in Rhodes or like a huge number of her subjects enjoyed cheap holidays to Greece.
We "commoners" may never be as well travelled as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, but it's easier than you think to visit some of her favourite destinations; and maybe Her Royal Highness might even think about Kos holidays or a Greece Holiday 2012 like the rest of us!
Canada - Most Visited Commonwealth Destination by the Queen
Like the Mounties, Princess Elizabeth got her man and the Queen and Prince Phillip made their first appearance in Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Alberta in 1951. It was only eight years later that the Queen returned and toured every province and territory of the country; Buckingham Palace officials and the Canadian government dubbed this the "Royal Tour".
Bahamas - Caribbean Queen - A Favourite Holiday Destination
The Queen has visited the sun-soaked islands of the Bahamas six times for official duties as well as private holidays making it a firm favourite holiday destination. As part of larger Caribbean tours, the islands were visited by The Queen and her husband in February 1966 and February 1975, and again during her Silver Jubilee tour of October 1977.
Located off the east coast of Florida, the stunning islands are pure paradise and have a wealth of interesting activities to choose from.
Malta - Small But Perfectly Formed
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the strategic Mediterranean island of Malta for four days between November 23 and 26, 2005, during which time Her Majesty opened the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.
It is a little known fact that the Queen, as Princess Elizabeth, lived in Malta from 1949 to 1951, when The Duke of Edinburgh was stationed on the island. This wonderful, sun-drenched little island is packed with history and personality; make sure you visit some of the many ancient building and architecture that make Malta so special.
France - No "Off With Her Head" For This Queen
The Queen has visited France eight times on official business, which tops it off as the most visited country by the Queen on state visits. The Queen paid a visit to one of Europe's most beautiful cities, Strasbourg in 1992. The entire town centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has a history unique to the area.
Strasbourg is located in the Alsace area of Northern France, a wine lovers heaven this lovely part of our near neighbour is home to some of the world's most famous vineyards.
USA - Making a State-Ment Visit,
With four visits across America, the Queen has spent a lot of time stateside and it would seem that the next generation of Windsors will be doing the same.
A country of contrasts, the USA has something for everyone with the cosmopolitan North East Coast, the tropical South East and West and the traditional deep south. The Queen has spent most of her visits up in stunning New England, at the White House in Washington DC or touring sun soaked California.
Malaysia - West Meets East
Part of the Commonwealth and visited five times by the Queen on official visits and private holidays, the beautiful region of Malaysia should be near the top of anyone's world travel wish list. The Queen stopped over in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur in October 1989 and September 1998 on state visits, taking in the cities unique blends of eastern cultures.
There is so much to see and do in this surprising city, where old and new seem to blend seamlessly.
