Green Mountain State Parents Will Discover Education Options for Children During National School Choice Week
MONTPELIER, Vt., Jan. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Families and educators are celebrating School Choice Week and the empowerment and flexibility that educational options provide Vermont students.
The Week will feature 58 events and activities across the Green Mountain State, including open house events at schools, school fairs, homeschool information sessions, and other celebrations. One of the largest events in the state will be a rally planned on Thursday, January 24, 2019 10:30 a.m. at the Capitol Theater in Montpelier followed by a school choice celebration at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier at 12:00pm.
Nationwide, 40,549 events and activities are being organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 20-26, 2019), and 10.8 million Americans are expected to participate. It will be the largest series of education-related events and activities in U.S. history.
In Vermont, there are many educational options, including open enrollment, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling. Students in specific Vermont towns are eligible for a tuitioning program, allowing them to go to nonreligious public or private schools outside their communities.
On the local level, elected officials and community leaders are recognizing the importance of educational opportunity by officially recognizing the Week. The town of Waterford has issued a proclamation recognizing School Choice Week in its community.
Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.
"Vermont has some of America's longest-running school choice programs and policies, and we encourage Vermont families to discover these education options during National School Choice Week," said National School Choice Week President Andrew Campanella.
