Located 10 miles southeast of Providence, the 1925 modified Cape overlooks Barrington Beach, boasting spectacular views of Narragansett Bay. The original 1500 sqft. home was not as ideal as the views, however, with cramped spaces, outdated features, and a lack of modern amenities. Yet, with the help of local tradespeople, This Old House is renovating and expanding the house into a stunning year-round living space for homeowners Geoff Allen, Michelle Forcier and their young daughter.
Working closely with Barrington builder Andy Tiplady and local architect Mary Brewster, the expert crew adds a tasteful 450-sq. ft. expansion, which includes a more spacious first floor, offering panoramic East Bay views, an expanded second-story over the garage, and a second-story deck off the master bedroom that faces the beach. Additionally, the crew works closely with the local team to ensure that the home is adequately protected from the elements, including storm winds and wind-driven rain.
The This Old House Barrington Project premieres nationally on PBS beginning Thursday, January 26, 2012 (check www.thisoldhouse.com/tvschedule or your local listings).
