This Holiday Season, Give A Gift of Lasting Change
CARE unveils e-catalog of gifts that help eliminate global poverty
ATLANTA, Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Just in time for the holiday season, CARE, one of the world's largest humanitarian organizations, is introducing an online catalog that allows consumers to give personalized gifts that help empower women, girls and their communities.
CARE's "Gifts of Lasting Change" e-catalog will offer shoppers close to 200 ways to fill a symbolic CARE Package to help communities around the world where CARE works. Because each gift represents a small piece of CARE's enormous body of poverty-fighting work across 87 countries, shoppers will be sure to find the right gift for anyone's budget or interest.
Using a website, shoppers can choose a gift based on their relationship to the recipient or their special interests. For the foodie father that has everything, a shopper might select the gift of a "fuel efficient stove" for $40.50 or a "fish farm" for $32. And for a friend who is a teacher, early childhood development materials for $127 might make a fitting selection.
The gifts are representative of what CARE does to support the fight against poverty. To help deliver the most effective solutions to the greatest number of people, the gift or donation will be combined with other funds and used where most needed, not necessarily to purchase the actual gift item in the catalog.
Once the gifts are selected, shoppers can send either a printed card or personalized e-card to their recipient, letting them know of the donation.
"We wanted to give people a tangible and more personal way of joining the fight against global poverty during this giving season," said Tolli Love, CARE's vice president of fundraising and marketing. "With these gifts you will be helping people in the world's poorest communities lift themselves out of poverty."
Using the catalog to create a CARE Package is reminiscent of CARE's roots. Founded in 1945, CARE created the original CARE Package to send food and supplies to World War II survivors. These days, CARE provides long-term solutions to poverty.

Other examples of gifts featured in the catalog:
- Urgent Need Gifts -- An Ebola Hygiene Kit for $8 or an emergency latrine for $173
- Education: Girl's school uniform for $19 or classroom furniture for $155
- Farming: A community center garden for $500.00 or a goat for $45.
The catalog is also categorized by price point with the least expensive items starting at $5 (two bars of soap) and ranging to $25,000 for a birth waiting room. And for a majority of gifts in the catalog, shoppers will find a pull-down menu next to the price to buy a half-or quarter-portion of the gift. (The gift recipient will get the same card regardless of the amount purchased.)
