This Far By Faith: Twenty Years at Cass Community
Book Launch and Tour
Nonprofit Benefits from Book Sales
DETROIT, Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Detroit's Orchestra Hall, Cass Community Publishing House (CCPH) will celebrate its first publication: "This Far By Faith: Twenty Years at Cass Community," written by Rev. Faith Fowler. Fowler is also the Executive Director of Cass Community Social Services (Cass) and CCPH Publisher.
Tickets are available for the Sept. 27th event and include a copy of the book. "This Far" is a collection of short stories highlighting Cass' work with hungry, homeless, sick and unemployed people. The frequently humorous anecdotes also address the organization's growth, changes in Detroit and the impact of technology and globalization.
In Detroit, Fowler will be joined by former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr, congressional candidate Debbie Dingell, Detroit News society columnist Chuck Bennett, Comerica SVP Linda Forte, Gleaners Food Bank President Gerry Brisson and Detroit Lank Bank Authority's Craig Fahle, to read excerpts from the book.
The Cass Ambassadors - a talented singing group composed of formerly homeless men, and the subject of several of Fowler's stories - will entertain patrons. Musical artists Michael Brock, Ron Otis, Marvin Thompson and Cel along with Cass United Methodist Church choir members will join the Ambassadors to sing "We've Come This Far By Faith," an African-American hymn and the inspiration for the book's title.
On Sunday, Sept. 28, Fowler and the Ambassadors begin a week-long statewide tour. All events are free to attend and begin at 7 p.m., exception: Gaylord begins at 6 p.m.
Books and Cass Green Industry products will be available for purchase. Profits from book sales benefit Cass' work.
