Third Annual Georgia Gives Day Taking Place Today
More than 2,000 nonprofits statewide raising funds and awareness in this year's "flashmob of giving"
ATLANTA, Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With just the few clicks of a mouse, tens of thousands of Georgians are coming together in a "flashmob of giving" for the third annual Georgia Gives Day to benefit more than 2,000 nonprofits across Georgia in a 24-hour day of giving.
Since the inaugural event in 2012, Georgia Gives Day has brought more these nonprofits together with more than 20,000 donors to raise more than $2.7 million dollars. 100% of donations made through GAgivesday.org go directly to each nonprofit's bank account. Participating nonprofits impact their communities in many ways, from environmental and animal causes, to working with seniors and children, healthcare, faith-based groups and many more. These groups are located all across the state, in nearly every Georgia county.
Georgia Gives Day is a program of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. President and CEO Karen Beavor points to the annual day of giving as important to raise funds to continue nonprofits' critical programs, and more broadly raise awareness of the work and worth of nonprofits across Georgia.
"We've seen time and time again that Georgians have a giving heart, but we know that in many cases they are in a hurry and may not know the names of organizations that are spearheading the causes they care about," Beavor said. "Georgia Gives Day brings all of these groups into one searchable website where donors can search by keyword or zip code for a cause they care about. It's as easy as going online to find and purchase a new book."
Georgia Gives Day 2014 will once again feature "Power Hours" and "Golden Tickets," popular competitions that reward nonprofits who receive the most donations and random drawings that add up to $1,000 onto individual donations that come in through the website throughout the day, respectively. Nonprofits at the top of our leaderboards for most dollars and most donors will also be rewarded with bonus incentive funds. These competitions, which add excitement and incentives to donate on Georgia Gives Day, are made possible through the generous support of GCN's corporate funding partners, including Fiserv/Popmoney, Coca-Cola, SunTrust Foundation, Wells Fargo, Knight Foundation, Arby's Foundation, and others.
Georgia Gives Day has proven to be a popular way for nonprofits to engage with new constituents. According to a survey of all donors who participated in Georgia Gives Day 2013, 10 percent made their first-ever donation to a nonprofit, 17 percent gave to a new nonprofit, and 19 percent donated more than they budgeted to give on Georgia Gives Day.
