The company will donate $5 for every comment and photo on its Facebook page that acknowledges a favorite small business during the month of November, up to a total of $5,000.
The money raised through Think Energy's Facebook effort will be donated to the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), a national organization devoted to promoting the growth and success of women-owned businesses—the fastest-growing segment in today's economy.
"Small Business Saturday is a great movement formed to inspire consumers to support their local small businesses," said John Henderson, General Manager of Think Energy. "As one of the only retail electricity providers serving small businesses exclusively, we recognize and understand small businesses are essential to the long-term vitality and growth of the U.S. economy."
"At the National Association of Women Business Owners, our mission is to strengthen women-owned small businesses across this country by empowering women entrepreneurs with the tools and resources they need to be successful regardless of their size or sector," said Bille Drago, NAWBO National Chair and Interim CEO. "We are grateful for this support from Think Energy and applaud them for their commitment to increasing the visibility of American Express' Small Business Saturday as well as increasing opportunities for independent businesses, many of which are owned and operated by women."
Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 by American Express in response to small business owners' most pressing need: more customers. In 2012, Small Business Saturday supporters reported spending over $5.5 billion at independently owned businesses on that day.1 More than 3.2 million Facebook users2, 350+ advocacy organizations, 150+ corporations, and elected officials in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., declared their support for Small Business Saturday last year.
