SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Theta, the first video delivery network powered by blockchain, advanced its market leadership in South Korea by partnering with the leading Korean technology university. Theta teamed with KAIST to launch the school's blockchain curriculum and foster a new generation of blockchain talent.
As the world leader in blockchain adoption, Korea is a key market where Theta has made significant accomplishments. The company recently announced partnerships with two of Korea's media titans – Maekyung Media Group and CJ Hello – based on strong results from Theta's testnet launch earlier this year.
Theta signed a memorandum of understanding with KAIST, Korea's top-ranked research-oriented science and engineering institution, to build several programs for the college's electrical engineering and computing schools. Starting early next year, Theta executives will teach a graduate-level credit course in blockchain development at the K-School, a specialty engineering program that integrates entrepreneurship with technology. Theta will also sponsor a student blockchain club, and conduct an introductory blockchain seminar on November 16.
"With Korea leading the world in blockchain adoption, the market is looking for developers and entrepreneurs who have a sophisticated understanding of blockchain technology as well as how blockchain can transform existing industries," said Professor Jong-Hwan Kim, Dean of KAIST Electrical Engineering Department. "Partnering with Theta enables us to provide unparalleled insights on blockchain and its real-world applications to our students. Blockchain technology is at the state of the internet in 1997; at KAIST, our students have a unique opportunity to shape the future of this emerging industry as it blossoms into a world-changing force."
"Our partnership with KAIST, known as the MIT of Korea will help us continue to shape the future of blockchain by educating the technology leaders of tomorrow," said Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs. "I was personally in these students' shoes years ago as an undergraduate student at the MIT Media Lab, and I gained valuable insights working with industry partners. We have a unique chance to partner with Korea's top engineering school to drive blockchain innovation and entrepreneurship."
