WORCESTER, Mass., Oct. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ThermoEnergy Corporation (OTCBB: TMEN), an industry leader in wastewater recovery and emissions-free combustion technologies, announced today that it has signed a contract for sale of its CAST® 3000 Wastewater Recovery System to a major recycling company located on the west coast. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. ThermoEnergy's proprietary CAST® flash vacuum distillation is a physical-chemical process that uses temperature and reduced pressure to separate chemicals, metals and nutrients from wastewater.

The CAST® system will be deployed at a major recycling facility that will recover ethylene glycol from spent car and truck antifreeze/coolant. The system will recover water from the glycol and then separate the glycol from the antifreeze/coolant additives. The process combines CAST® technology with pretreatment to achieve a 95% recovery rate with up to 99% purity. The facility will dewater 3,000 gallons per day of pretreated wastewater containing approximately 40% ethylene glycol. The operation is expected to recover more than 1,000 gallons per day of dewatered ethylene glycol that will be used for blending and resale.
"This contract is indicative of an increasing interest from the commercial sector in ThermoEnergy's glycol recovery systems," said Cary Bullock, President and CEO of ThermoEnergy Corporation. "Management believes that environmental regulations, coupled with the superior operating efficiencies and the rapid return on investment of our CAST® Technology, positions us well for additional revenues from the glycol recovery market. This is particularly promising in the Aircraft Deicing Fluid (ADF) recovery market, where ThermoEnergy systems can be used to recover propylene glycol from Aircraft Deicing Fluids (ADF) sprayed on planes in winter weather. EPA regulations are putting increasing pressure on airports to limit ADF runoff in storm water. We are currently in negotiations with several airports and expect to make announcements very soon."
