Therese A. Scanlan, EdD named President of Resurrection University Chicago
CHICAGO, July 6, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Resurrection University announced the Board of Directors' selection of Therese A. Scanlan, EdD to the position of President of the University.
Dr. Scanlan has assumed the role as President and will lead the charge for the University that has recently doubled enrollment in less than five years. Prior to the role as president and interim president, she served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer where she led a multitude of governance, legal, construction and financial initiatives through the University's enormous period of growth.
"Dr. Scanlan has been a part of the learning community for the past 10 years and is well prepared to step into the role of President," said Resurrection University Board Chairperson Patty T. Sheridan, MBA, RHIA, FAHIMA, Sr. VP HIM Services, CIOX Health. "Dr. Scanlan's rich history, leadership experience and academic background, together with her commitment and service, positions ResU to continue to fulfill its mission and vision to educate and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals."
Dr. Scanlan has held significant positions throughout the University's history, from the former West Suburban College of Nursing to what is now named Resurrection University. In 2010, the University embarked upon a change of control process to become an independent organization from the non-profit parent health system. In addition to the control process change, the University also relocated from Oak Park's West Suburban Hospital to Chicago. In December 2012, the University moved to its new location where it now stands and continues to grow inside the walls of Presence Saint Elizabeth Hospital at 1431 N. Claremont in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.
Dr. Scanlan's vision for the University has continued into 2016 with the development of a new 14-room state-of-the-art Foglia Family Foundation Inter-Professional Education (IPE) Simulation Learning Center, which replaces the one-room Simulation Learning Center that was built in 2012. This new center allows nursing, radiography and health informatics and information management students the opportunity to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary patient care teams in both colleges through didactic clinical, classroom and simulation education, which will produce graduates who practice patient-centered, integrated team-based healthcare.
"I am honored to accept the role of President at Resurrection University and to continue to lead the University as it evolves and grows to fit the needs of our students. I've been fortunate to see first-hand the benefits our students have gained from the developments taking place here at ResU over the last 10 years and I'm excited to see what the future holds," said President Therese A. Scanlan, EdD. "ResU has a long history of educating healthcare professionals, and with improvements such as our new Foglia Family Foundation IPE Education Simulation Learning Center, we continue our commitment to offer a top-notch healthcare education."
In addition to her work at Resurrection University, Dr. Scanlan has held various administrative positions within different sectors of higher education and non-profit management. These positions include District Director of Student Revenue for the City Colleges of Chicago, Regional Director at the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning and Director of Financial Aid at both DeVry Chicago and Governors State University. Dr. Scanlan also was a faculty member in the School of Education at Capella University.
Dr. Scanlan earned her Doctorate in Higher Education and Organizational Change from Benedictine University. She received a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from St. Xavier University.
Dr. Scanlan and her family reside in Chicago's Beverly area. She has two sons, one in college and one at a Catholic high school in Chicago.
