thePlatform Tapped as Central Video Publishing System for shomi

SEATTLE, March 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- thePlatform, the leading white-label video publishing company and independent subsidiary of Comcast, today announced that it is providing back-end video management services for shomi™, the new subscription video-on-demand service, launched in Canada late last year. shomi is a joint venture owned equally by Rogers Communications and Shaw Communications.
thePlatform's cloud-based mpx video management system provides several back-end functions for shomi. Specifically, mpx provides easy workflow management of video ingest; metadata management; subscriber management and viewing rights enforcement; and automated publishing across device and video player profiles.

The Canadian streaming service is available now in beta to Rogers and Shaw Internet or cable customers, while conversations continue with other BDUs. Subscribers can enjoy shomi online and on select tablets, mobile devices, set top boxes, and Xbox 360. shomi will also be coming soon to Chromecast. shomi features an all-star TV content lineup of Canadian exclusives, day-and-date releases of buzz-worthy series, and past-seasons of many of the hottest shows on television.
