FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wound Institute today announced it has been named a 2012 Gold Award Winner in the 14th annual Web Health Awards(SM) for its online Medical Education platform developed for healthcare professionals. Additionally, The Wound Institute Patient Portal, which provides educational resources designed for patients and caregivers, received a Merit Award.

"This is an important endorsement of The Wound Institute and our ongoing commitment to provide high quality, credible education to all stakeholders involved in the management of chronic and non-healing wounds."
The Web Health Awards(SM) competition is held twice each year––Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall—and recognizes the nation's best digital health resources. The 2012 Winter/Spring Web Health Awards contest received 600 entries; of those entries submitted for consideration, 7% received a Gold Award; 12% received Silver; 14% received Bronze; and 18% received Merit Awards.
Using a rating scale of 1 to 100 points, a panel of 32 health technology professionals judge entries based on content, format, success in reaching the targeted health audience and overall quality. Judging criteria include assessing content (60% score weight), as well as design/creativity and user experience (40% score weight), using the following parameters:
- Content Assessment: Health information must be credible/informative; complete; current; focused to the targeted health behavior; and content must be clearly attributed and/or conflict of interest free or resolve those conflicts to maintain objectivity.
- Design/Creativity and User Experience Assessment: Overall design and layout must be appropriate for target audience; visuals/graphics must be relevant to subject matter; and graphics must be complete and working.
