When tourists and Copenhageners take a stroll down the famous pedestrian street "Stroget" in the center of Copenhagen August 14 they are in for a surprise of world record breaking dimensions! The street is transformed into one long glamorous runway where 220 models will walk 1 mile (1.609 km) and present the best of Scandinavian fashion this fall. The world famous Danish supermodel Helena Christensen will welcome people and is opening the catwalk with a speech.
Northern Europe's largest fashion event
Copenhagen Fashion Week has during the past few years developed into a large and renowned event with an international scope, and it attracts more than 50,000 buyers, designers and global press.
But not only the industry and buyers are invited. Tourists and Copenhageners are invited to join the party when Copenhagen Fashion Festival takes to the streets. Large parts of Copenhagen are transformed into a fashion Mecca of shows, exhibitions, concerts, trend shows and parties. And the "fashion for the people" concept also reflects Danish fashion.
It is becoming worldwide renowned for its unique angle on design, innovation and aesthetics and a modern approach to functionality. The clothes are wearable and affordable - often referred to as "democratic fashion."
Copenhagen - fashion capitol of Scandinavia
Not only is Copenhagen the gastronomic place to go at the moment with a restaurant holding the title of "the world's best restaurant" and "Best European Chef", but Copenhagen is also considered Scandinavia's fashion capitol. And the vision is to become the world's fifth fashion mecca, following New York, Milan, Paris and London. With the world's greatest catwalk and a fashion week growing in size, Copenhagen is well on its way.
