The Wellness Project, offered by Community Services Northwest, was founded in 2003 when a group of local doctors, hospitals, colleges and social services providers came together to find a solution for individuals who need mental health services but are uninsured or underinsured.
In partnership with universities in Washington and Oregon, master's level student counselors, under direct supervision of licensed mental health professionals, provide individual and group therapy, specialized groups and other forms of support. Over the past three years, 150 student interns and volunteer counselors have provided treatment and support to 677 clients, with 8,842 hours of counseling services.
"Many of our clients don't have the money for food and housing, let alone therapy," said Denise Stone, Wellness Project Manager. "The Wellness Project eases their burden by providing the solution-focused services and support they desperately need, in a warm and welcoming environment."
