The Weekapaug Inn Opens In Weekapaug, Rhode Island, Following $20 Million Transformation
Sister hotel to the renowned Ocean House, the seaside historic Inn offers a year-round barefoot luxury experience
WEEKAPAUG, R.I., Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean House Management, LLC announces the opening of the historic Weekapaug Inn in the peaceful Rhode Island beach community of Weekapaug, following a $20 million transformation. The Inn, which has been closed since 2007, re-opened on October 7 as a four-season quintessential New England seaside vacation retreat, offering guests a sophisticated getaway with sweeping views of Quonochontaug Pond, and the Atlantic just beyond. The Weekapaug Inn joins its nearby sister hotel, the Ocean House, as a collection of iconic resorts renowned for their scenic Rhode Island oceanfront setting, sense of tradition, exceptional food and highly personalized service.
Originally built in 1899, the inn's renovation was conducted with the support and cooperation of the Rhode Island Historic Preservation & Heritage Commission. Designed by Rhode Island-based Nancy Taylor Designs, the inn's distinct 27 guest rooms, and four two-bedroom Signature Suites convey a mix of traditional and whimsical fabrics and furniture – reflecting the owners' dedication to the Inn's rich history – with a touch of modern luxury. Welcoming guests to enjoy the romance of winter in New England, rooms have bathrooms with heated floors and towel racks, and four wood-burning fireplaces are featured in the public spaces.
"While the Ocean House and the Weekapaug Inn have always catered to different guests and will continue to do so, we plan to create appropriate synergies and alignment between the two properties to create truly unique and special experiences for guests at each property," said Daniel A. Hostettler, the President and Group Managing Director of Ocean House Management, LLC.
Langdon Wheeler, Managing Member of Weekapaug Inn and Cottages LLC said, "The Weekapaug Inn historically served as a centerpiece of its community, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to restore this treasure to its former glory. By introducing a new chapter to the Inn's history, both locals and travelers will be able to experience its spectacular location, enriching experiences and traditions for years to come."
The Inn, which is overseen by innkeeper Antonia Korosec, an international hotelier, invites travelers to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings. In fact, in-room flat-panel televisions will only be available upon request. Instead, guests can get active in the Inn's three-lane 75-foot lap pool and fitness center, experience traditional lawn activities – such as bocce ball, shuffleboard and horseshoes – or explore nature's wonders. Taking advantage of the Inn's spectacular location on a living estuary, resident Naturalist and Director of Recreation Mark Bullinger connects guests to the environment via educational outings including guided kayak paddles, bird watching, barrier beach walks, fly-fishing seminars, bicycle trips, clamming and astronomy sessions. The Inn will also introduce "Master Series" seminars on such topics as digital wildlife photography and landscape painting.
Overseen by Executive Chef Jennifer Backman, the Weekapaug Inn's two dining venues offer farm-to-table delicacies prepared simply yet elegantly with a nod to the traditional cultures of the region, including Italian, Portuguese and Native American. The Restaurant offers a sophisticated setting with outdoor seating during summer and a romantic wood-burning fireplace in the winter. For a relaxed option, the SeaRoom tempts palates with New England comfort food – think hearty New England Clam Chowder, and native lobster and sweet corn fritters with tarragon remoulade.
Located just five miles away, the AAA Five Diamond and Relais & Chateaux Ocean House serves as a sister property and provides management oversight of the inn, allowing guests of the Inn the use of its facilities, including Rhode Island's only Forbes Five Star OH! Spa, five restaurant outlets, championship croquet, two squash courts and a 650-foot private white-sand beach. The partnership allows guests at each property to experience the best of both worlds, and enjoy two properties with vastly different styles.
