The Washington Center Launches Third-Annual InternsROCK! Week
June 8 - 17, 2012
Area Businesses Honor DC-Area Interns with Discount Offerings
WASHINGTON, June 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Each year thousands of interns embark on a journey to gain work experience in the nation's capital. InternsROCK!, a program launched by The Washington Center for Interns and Academic Seminars (TWC), is a way for area businesses to give back by offering any intern in the DC-metro area with special discounts at participating restaurants, museums, tour companies, music venues and retail establishments.
As one of the biggest intern organizations of its kind, TWC offers a structured academic internship program all year round. In the summer alone 570 interns from 400 universities go through TWC's Program.
"From supporting local area businesses and nonprofits to the halls of Congress – there is no question that interns make a major impact on the city," said Mike Smith, president of TWC. "We believe that InternsROCK! is an excellent way for businesses to show interns that their hard work and contributions do not go unnoticed."
"In addition to daily internships and educational classes, TWC interns dedicate up to 20 hours to civic engagement. Many students participate in seven structured projects," Smith added. "These students provide as much as 11,400 hours of service to veteran, homeless, environmental, and human rights groups and charities and deserve to be recognized for their contributions. InternsROCK! is a small gesture to pay it forward for their hard work and dedication."
During the week-long promotion, interns are encouraged to take advantage of discounts and special events all of which can be found at www.internsrockdc.com. A kick-off event, hosted by TWC, will take place at the Gallery Place Mall in Chinatown (Seventh and H Streets, near the Chinatown Metro) from 5:00pm – 8:00pm and will feature vendor demonstrations, how-to sessions and light refreshments.
