The Washington Center and the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Introduce The Gibraltar Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Training Program

WASHINGTON, April 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the next three years, beginning in the fall of 2013, 60 university and college students from Gibraltar will be the recipients of the first ever Gibraltar Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Training Program. Students from Gibraltar will travel to Washington, D.C. for a semester to take part in an academic internship program, and earn academic credit back at their home university.

Gibraltar's Chief Minister, Fabian R. Picardo, and The Washington Center's Chief International Officer and Senior Vice President, Pilar Mendiola-Fernandez, signed the new partnership initiative on March 14, 2013 in Palo Alto, Ca.

"Experiential learning is universal and an essential part of higher education, across the globe," said Pilar Mendiola Fernandez. "Taking that experience and making it an international one only enhances the internship. Nearly 30% of the Washington Center's total enrollment is made up of international students. We've created a tailored program focused on innovation and entrepreneurship that empowers students and expands their career opportunities, both here in the states and back in their home country."

In addition to interning at different private and public sector organizations for 15 weeks, the students will attend classes and lectures on sustainable development, entrepreneurship, innovation, global trade, e-commerce, commercial trade, water management and green technologies.

The full scholarship will cover tuition, housing, visa fees and health insurance for each student.
