The Washington Center and Destination DC Launch First-Ever InternsROCK! an Intern Appreciation Week in Washington, DC
Area Businesses to offer Interns Discounts June 11-18
WASHINGTON, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC)—in conjunction with MTV-U and Destination DC announce InternsROCK!™ —a city-wide intern appreciation week set for June 11-18, 2010. InternsROCK! is an initiative to honor the approximately 20,000 interns who flock to the DC-metro area each year to test-drive their careers at local businesses, nonprofits and government agencies.
Throughout the week, area restaurants, retailers and music venues will offer 20 percent off, 30 percent off and/or buy one, get one free discounts to interns wearing InternsROCK! wrist bands.
Mike Smith, President of The Washington Center, said, "In an increasingly competitive job market, academic internships are becoming a vital part of a student's college career. This week will honor those students who work hard all summer to gain real-life work experience."
InternsROCK! is just one example of the internship enhancing opportunities that TWC provides each semester for interns to network and learn together. "This is a monumental summer for TWC with the launch of InternsROCK! and the opening of our new intern campus," added Smith. The six-story housing facility, opening in May, is the largest building exclusively for interns in Washington, DC.
TWC interns will receive wrist bands through program advisors during their orientation. More than 670 interns from 400 colleges and universities are enrolled through The Washington Center program this semester.
InternsROCK! is not exclusive to TWC students. Wrist bands will be distributed free of charge to interns city-wide and intern host organizations from June 1- June 11, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at TWC located at 1333 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036.

The new TWC housing facility will serve as a central hub for students, with a 500-seat auditorium, six classrooms, a student lounge, a fitness center and parking areas. Walking distance to Capitol Hill, this dorm-like housing will become home to 1,200 students a year, making it the largest building exclusively for interns in Washington, DC. This summer alone, 32 academic courses will be held in the building.
