FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the Vehicle Production Group received support from Congress Members Joe Donnelly and Congressman Peter J. Visclosky (D – Indiana), who called on a federal agency to rescind a waiver for its "Buy America" program – a waiver that would allow consumers to use Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) funds in purchasing minivans whose final assembly is completed outside the US. VPG's wheelchair-accessible MV-1 is assembled in Mishawaka, Indiana, and its parts supply chain is wholly-based in the United States.

Congressmen Donnelly and Visclosky sent a joint letter to the FTA to express support for VPG's efforts to direct FTA funds to purchase only from American carmakers VPG. In their letter, the Congress Members wrote, "The MV-1, produced by VPG, satisfies the 'Buy America' goal while creating a price- competitive product which allows for universal access."
"We're pleased with the support our Indiana congressmen have given us at VPG in our efforts to produce the only universally accessible vehicle built from the ground up," said John Walsh, CEO of the Vehicle Production Group. "The MV-1 delivers uncompromised mobility and unparalleled rider comfort from the moment it rolls off the assembly line in Mishawaka, Indiana – and we're proud to say it's made in the U.S.A."
VPG produces the MV-1 while providing more than 900 jobs, including employees, suppliers, retailers and service personnel in the U.S.
