NEW YORK, March 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, announced that a team of students from the University of Michigan are the U.S. national champions of the 2015-2016 KPMG International Case Competition (KICC) – a unique, fast-paced, and high-impact business case study competition open to select colleges and universities of business students. The University of Michigan's team will go on to compete against teams from 22 countries including Australia, Brazil, Serbia, and the United Kingdom at the KICC finals in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, April 11-16. KICC is the largest international case study competition among the Big Four accounting firms. This is the second consecutive year the University of Michigan has been named U.S. champions.
"Our case study competition gives students an opportunity to develop their global business skill set," said Becky Sproul, KPMG's National Managing Partner for University Relations and Recruiting. "It is also a great way for our firm to identify top performing students at early stages of their collegiate careers. Each year we are increasingly impressed at the level of intellect and ingenuity that teams exhibit and this year was no exception."
The 2015-2016 KICC national finals were held February 25-26 at KPMG's U.S. Headquarters in New York City. The other U.S. finalists included teams from New York University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Oregon and the University of Houston. The first round of the competition began in September 2015, with teams representing 42 different U.S. colleges and universities.
"We started this contest just wanting to learn more. When we won the campus round, we were in it for the long haul and very focused," said Chelsea Racelis, sophomore on the University of Michigan team. "Getting to work with KPMG and see how much they invested in our team has been something I really value. Having partners serve as judges, speaking with them and having the opportunity to meet with international judges, those are experiences I don't think any other firm provides."
This is KPMG's 13th international case competition. Past competitions have been held in Hong Kong, Madrid, and Sao Paulo, to name a few locations.
