The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Statement in Support of Google, Verizon Agreement
WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Javier Palomarez, president and CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement on the public policy framework developed this week by Google and Verizon:
"The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), which represents more than 200 local chambers and serves as the national advocate for nearly three million Hispanic-owned businesses in our country, applauds the broadband industry for coming together this week and producing a good starting point from which to create a sound legislative framework to address the challenges inherent to a robust internet community.
"With the internet being a tool for learning, searching for employment, managing finances and communicating, the USHCC believes that it is unacceptable that low-income Americans – immigrants and non-immigrants alike – are unable to access the Web. We believe that it is imperative for Hispanics to have access to the internet to prosper and grow as meaningful contributors to our economy.
"The USHCC looks forward to a legislative fix guided by the principles proposed by Verizon and Google."
