The Town Lake Chapter of The Links, Incorporated Announces Annual Mardi Gras Magic Gala
AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Town Lake Chapter of The Links, Incorporated welcomes the Greater Austin community to its annual Mardi Gras Magic Gala, to be held at the J.W. Marriott in downtown Austin on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. The lively affair will highlight the chapter's 30 years of transformational service and keep guests partying for a purpose.
Attendees will walk the "green carpet" at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy cocktails, conversation, and a Creole-inspired menu. Special performances by Austin Samba, violin virtuoso Richmond Punch, and surprise guests are sure to entertain. And in a silent auction, a 7-day Kenyan adventure with Fair Trade Safaris is up for grabs--complete with excursions to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Sanctuary, Lake Naivasha, Amboseli National Park and Maasai Mara.
Chic cocktail attire and masks are encouraged. Guests can dance all night and let the good times roll while raising funds and awareness for vital community programs. Tickets are $110 per person and available online at townlakelinks.org/mgm.
"Since 1988, this group of African-American women have been raising funds and volunteering in the Austin area," said Town Lake Chapter President Dominique Williams. "To date, we've donated more than $130,000 to feed local hungry children and awarded more than $300,000 in college scholarships. With your help, we can give more local students nutritious meals to enhance their ability to learn, STEM programming to enhance their skills and job prospects, and also much-needed support to attend college despite financial hardship."
Last year alone, the chapter's members volunteered more than 4,250 hours of heartfelt service on top of their daily work as doctors, educators, executives and community leaders. They lead bi-weekly computer literacy courses for students at a local elementary school, designed and hosted monthly enrichment activities for girls in foster care, and launched a National Society of Black Engineers, Jr. student team that competes in robotics and other competitions.
"As a group, we are committed to making Austin a more inclusive, connected, and prosperous community for all," Williams said. Laissez les bons temps rouler.
