The Time Is Now To Join The Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer At PurpleStride Nashville
NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More patients will die from pancreatic cancer than breast cancer this year, moving pancreatic cancer from the fourth to the third-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, according to the Cancer Statistics 2016 report, published by the American Cancer Society.
To change the course of this disease, the Nashville Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is inviting the community to attend PurpleStride Nashville. The volunteer-led community celebration taking place on Saturday, May 14, through Public Square Park will raise much needed awareness and funds to support the mission of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to advance research, support patients and create hope.

Kimberly Facer, Teams Ambassador for the Nashville Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, knows the devastating effects that pancreatic cancer has on a person and their family.
"Pancreatic cancer quickly took the life of my grandmother," said Facer. "She, like so many others, didn't have time to fight. Prior to her diagnosis, I knew nothing about the disease or the dire statistics associated with it."
Since losing her grandmother, Facer realized the importance of raising awareness and urging people to join the fight.
"The strength in numbers is undeniable," continued Facer. "Uniting with others at PurpleStride to raise funds and awareness brings me comfort. I know the money we raise will lead to earlier detection, better treatment options and eventually a cure."
The family-friendly 5K walk/run will include:
- Registration at 6:30 a.m., event begins at 8 a.m.
- Kid-friendly activities and "purple play zone"
- Light snacks and beverages provided
- Affiliate Sponsor: Jeanenne Thompson Foundation, Inc.
- Gold Sponsor: Still Working Music Group
- National Presenting Sponsor: Celgene
- National Silver Sponsor: AbbVie
The American Cancer Society reports an estimated 53,070 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and approximately 41,780 will die from the disease this year.
