LAS VEGAS, Feb. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ClexaCon unites LGBTQ+ women and allies to celebrate representative characters and stories, connecting thousands at a party so highly anticipated that VIP tickets sold out in two minutes.
Today, ClexaCon is proud to announce that a portion of the proceeds from Cocktails for Change will benefit the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which fights for economic justice, health, and representation equality for LGBTQ girls and women, with a deep commitment to racial and transgender inclusivity.
According to musicians and activists Tegan and Sara Quin: "Less than 1% of TV characters are lesbian. In 2016, 26 queer female characters were killed on-screen, continuing a decades-long trend. On the flipside, we are in an era where more LGBTQ women are succeeding — like the first female LGBTQ governor in office and the first female LGBTQ owners of major sports teams. The Tegan and Sara Foundation works in part to promote content that shows LGBTQ girls the things that they can aspire to be. ClexaCon is incredibly necessary because positive representation matters — if a young LGBTQ girl can see it, she can be it."
Artists like Tegan and Sara have been and inspiration for many, including the organizers of ClexaCon, who are thrilled to work alongside the Foundation to ensure LGBTQ+ women and girls have equal opportunities to succeed.
Part of ClexaCon's special programming, Cocktails for Change is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to make a difference while mingling with special guests Amy Acker (Angel, Person of Interest), Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest, The L Word), Katherine Barrell and Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Wynonna Earp), Elise Bauman and Natasha Negovanlis (Carmilla), Gabrielle Christian and Mandy Musgrave (South of Nowhere, Girl Trash), Aasha Davis (Pariah, South of Nowhere), Elizabeth Keener (The L Word, Skirtchasers), Ali Liebert (Bomb Girls, Lost Girl), Jasika Nicole (Fringe, Suicide Kale), and Rachel Skarsten (Lost Girl, Reign).
ClexaCon is a celebration of representations of LGBTQ women in all genres and includes panels, workshops, autograph sessions, and a film festival. Aside from those already mentioned, guests also include Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl), Eden Riegel and Elizabeth Hendrickson (All My Children), and Lynn Chen and Michelle Krusiec (Saving Face), plus content creators including Emily Andras (Wynonna Earp, Lost Girl), Alice Wu (Saving Face), Shamim Sarif and Hanan Kattan (I Can't Think Straight), Paige Bernhardt and Nancylee Myatt (Nikki & Nora, South of Nowhere), Amanda Bearse (Skirtchasers), Katherine Brooks (Loving Annabelle), Stan Zimmerman (The Golden Girls, Roseanne, Gilmore Girls), and Bridget McManus and Christin Baker (Tellofilms).
In addition to the Tegan and Sara Foundation, ClexaCon is partnering with The Trevor Project as an official non-profit partner.
