LOS ANGELES, April 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The TEAMS Conference & Expo—the world's largest gathering for the sports-event industry—has announced its support for the first-ever Global Meetings Industry Day, which is being celebrated Thursday, April 14, in Europe, North America and South America. Led by the U.S. Travel Association's Meetings Mean Business Coalition, Global Meetings Industry Day aims to showcase the real impact that business meetings, conventions, trade shows and exhibitions have on people, businesses and communities everywhere.

The day of advocacy marks the expansion of last year's North American Meetings Industry Day, which included 88 events across the continent as well as participation through online and social media channels. Global Meetings Industry Day will also feature a number of advocacy events and rallies, proclamations from industry partners and social media updates.
TEAMS '16 will reinforce the same principles upon which Global Meetings Industry Day was founded when it is held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, September 26–29. Hosted by the Atlantic City Sports Commission and Meet AC and presented by SportsTravel, TEAMS '16 will feature the largest educational programming in the history of the event, which is devoted to the continued growth and vitality of the sports-event industry.
TEAMS '16 will include a variety of general sessions and keynote addresses, six tracks of educational programming, an appointment-based expo, a golf tournament, the presentation of the 2016 SportsTravel Awards, and several social and networking opportunities. In addition, the National Congress of State Games will be holding its annual convention in conjunction with TEAMS '16.
"TEAMS is proud to support Global Meetings Industry Day," said Timothy Schneider, publisher of SportsTravel, which organizes the TEAMS Conference & Expo. "As the world's leading sports-specific conference and expo, TEAMS is committed to demonstrating the positive economic impact of both the sports-event industry and sports-related meetings and conventions."
"We are thrilled to promote Atlantic City as a sports-friendly destination," said Jim Wood, president and CEO of Meet AC and founder of the Atlantic City Sports Commission. "We are pleased that TEAMS supports Global Meetings Industry Day and we look forward to welcoming the sports-event industry to Atlantic City when we host TEAMS '16 in September."
