The Sun Trolley is Marge Melbourne's Red And Yellow Chauffeur, A Convenient Service She Doesn't Want To Do Without
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- If it weren't for the Sun Trolley, I'd still be able to get around on the county bus, but my trips would be less convenient and less safe.
Unlike the county bus, which basically drops you off on the side of the road and leaves you to cross many busy lanes of traffic where cars just zoom right by, the Sun Trolley is much more safe and convenient. It's almost like having your own personal red and yellow chauffeur.
I utilize Sun Trolley's Galt Ocean Link Route on a regular basis. It takes me right into the Coral Ridge Mall so I can shop at Publix, right to my bank on A1A so I can make a deposit, and right to Holy Cross hospital so I can take a test or get a checkup. It even takes me right to the Fort Lauderdale Beach Community Center where I can play bingo and occasionally talk to the people who run the Sun Trolley, the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association - a nonprofit organization.
As a 76-year-old Floridian, I have to be more careful and the convenience provided by the Sun Trolley helps me do that.
Even the people and the socializing are better on the Sun Trolley.
I see a lot of the friends who ride the Sun Trolley all the time. Even the drivers make it a worthwhile ride by interacting with the riders. They're very friendly.
It's a fantastic service we wouldn't want to lose, but we have to make sure we use it. I keep telling the people who live in my building that – use it or we will lose it. I ride for free but the service is so good, so important to me, I'd be willing to give up some of my limited funds to use it if more money was needed to help run it.
I just hope more of my neighbors realize how great this service is and start riding. Until then, I'll keep doing my part to get more people to grab a seat on my red and yellow chauffeur.
