The State Museum of Pennsylvania Offers Discounts, Extended Hours for 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 31, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To mark the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, The State Museum of Pennsylvania is partnering with the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg to offer extended hours and discounts on adult admissions.
Both The State Museum and the National Civil War Museum have new exhibits produced especially for the anniversary. People who visit both museums are eligible to save on admission.
"There are an anticipated four million visitors coming to our region to take part in commemorative activities in Gettysburg by mid-July," State Museum Director David Dunn said.
"We are pleased to work with the National Civil War Museum to help accommodate the many tourists and local visitors who are coming here to learn about this pivotal event in our nation's history," Dunn added.
Visitors who purchase a general adult admission ticket at either museum will receive a coupon for $2 off general adult admission to the other institution. The offer is valid for each paid adult admission from June 1 to Sept. 1, 2013.
At The State Museum, "Objects of Valor: Commemorating the Civil War in Pennsylvania," focuses on the museum's significant Civil War collections. The centerpiece is its colossal painting, "Battle of Gettysburg–Pickett's Charge," by Peter Frederick Rothermel.
The National Civil War Museum is hosting two special exhibits, "In the Service of Our Nation: Conscription During the Civil War," and "1863" which specifically commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
The State Museum of Pennsylvania is open Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
In addition, The State Museum will be open on Monday and Tuesday, July 1-2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The State Museum is generally closed to visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays. The State Museum will be closed on Thursday, July 4.

The National Civil War Museum is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
From June 28 to Sept. 1, The National Civil War Museum will offer extended summer hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
