The Society of Wine Educators' 34th Annual Conference in DC: Red, White & Bubbles, A Capital Perspective on Wine
NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ --The Society of Wine Educators will hold its 34th Annual Conference on July 28th-30th in Washington, DC at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza.
The 2010 Annual Conference is a two and a half day educational extravaganza, which promises to be one of the most provocative and informative wine education events of the year. It features a wide range of professional development seminars, highlighting some of the best wines and spirits in the world. There are a total of 50 provocative sessions, presented by more than 35 leaders of the beverage alcohol industry. These include 5 French wine sessions, 7 US wine sessions, 4 wine and food tasting sessions, and 2 spirit sessions. There will also be intriguing new looks into wines from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Argentina, New Zealand and Japan. And, in line with the mission of the Society of Wine Educators, 5 sessions will investigate the art and science of teaching wine and spirits.
Some of the highlights of the Conference include: a Champagne Lunch & Seminar with Ed McCarthy, CWE and Mary Ewing Mulligan, MW; the first ever "Iron Sommelier Competition," hosted by Rick Schofield, CWE, in which 2 top Sommeliers will compete with each other to create—and be judged on—ideal wine and food pairings; a "Spectacular Retrospective of Chateau LaGrange", presented by Bruno Enyard; new insights on "Wines from Portugal: A World of Difference," presented by Doug Frost, MW, MS; and Bill Whiting's seminar, "Titillating Tuscany—In the Land of Wine." There will also be the chance to relax and socialize at evening events: the New Zealand Embassy Dinner; the International Tasting; the cocktail walk-around, and the Red, White & Bubbles party. Attendees can now register directly on the Society's website: www.societyofwineeducators.org, where they can view the entire conference brochure and register for specific sessions.
Special reviews and exams for all certifications (Certified Wine Specialist, Certified Specialist of Spirits, and Certified Wine Educator) will be offered during the course of the Conference.
