The Society For Information Display Announces Keynote Speakers For Display Week 2013 In Vancouver, Canada
Heavy Hitters from Samsung, Microsoft and Oregon State University Set Stage For Developments and Innovations in Display Industry
CAMPBELL, Calif., Feb. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society for Information Display (SID), the leading global organization dedicated to the advancement of electronic display technology, today unveiled the keynote speaker line up for this year's Display Week, which is taking place at the Vancouver Convention Center from May 19-24, 2013 in Vancouver, Canada. Diving into the developments and innovation in displays, the keynote speakers include: Dr. Kinam Kim, President and Chief Executive Office (CEO) of Samsung Display Co., Bill Buxton, Principal Researcher at Microsoft, and John F. Wager, the Michael and Judith Gaulke Endowed Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering School of EECS at Oregon State University.
"Each year, the keynote session sets the stage for Display Week—providing a unique look at the developments in the technologies and applications surrounding the display industry," stated SID President, Brian Berkeley. Kicking off the keynote session on Tuesday, May 21 at 8:30 a.m. will be Dr. Kinam Kim from Samsung, who will focus on "Displays and Innovation: An Exciting Future." Specifically, he will address the innovations in user interface/interaction, as well as the advancements and challenges in panel technologies in order to offer richer, more dynamic experiences for displays.
Next, Bill Buxton of Microsoft will speak on "The Social Life of Devices," explaining the shifting sands of ubiquitous computing and how managing the complexity for users with individual devices is critical to the continued growth of our industry.
Closing the keynote session, Professor John F. Wager of Oregon State University, will review the current status of amorphous oxide semiconductor thin-film transistors (AOS TFTs) for display applications.
A separate event that attendees won't want to miss is the annual SID Best in Show and Display Industry Awards Luncheon, which will be held on Wednesday, May 22. Professor Ronald A. Rensink, associate professor of the departments of computer science and psychology at the University of British Columbia will discuss the major breakthroughs in our understanding of human vision and how it affects the design of more effective information displays.
