IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A smile is infectious – especially when it is the smile of a child playing on a playground. Smile Generation® partnered with the nonprofit, KaBOOM!, an organization that builds playgrounds in underprivileged areas, to build two new playgrounds for the Salvation Army Door of Hope in San Diego, CA and the Jackson STEM Dual Language Magnet Academy in Altadena, CA. These locations desperately needed a safe place for kids to play and Smile Generation volunteers came in and worked tirelessly to build each playground in less than 24 hours.
The Salvation Army Door of Hope provides transitional housing center for single mothers and their children and the Jackson STEM Dual Language Magnet Academy is an innovative academic program focused on developing leaders for the 21st century. The mothers at the Door of Hope and the teachers at Jackson STEM Academy are comforted knowing that their children can learn, make friends, and safely play on their new playgrounds.
Additionally, the Pacific Dental Services Foundation® and volunteers brought smiles to these locations where community members were provided free dental care. More than 200 patients were seen for a total of $110,000 in donated dentistry. Dr. Clinton Park (Smile Generation trusted clinician) reflects, "Smile Generation has a culture to serve, and I loved watching the playground build in between serving patients." The combination of play and dental care not only brought smiles to the deserving community members, but to all the volunteers that helped make those smiles possible.
