An anniversary celebration will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel in downtown Cleveland.
To commemorate the 100th Anniversary, an inaugural $15,000 "Ever Forward gift in honor of Belle Sherwin" was presented this morning to Providence House from the Women's Club and the Sherwin-Williams Foundation. Belle Sherwin was the daughter of Henry Sherwin, founder of The Sherwin-Williams Company.
Providence House, founded in 1981, is Ohio's first and one of the longest operating crisis nurseries in the U.S. and Canada today offering emergency shelter and care to children who are actively at risk for abuse and neglect due to family crisis. More than a shelter for at-risk children, the agency offers holistic services for children and their families including education, mentoring, case management and aftercare focused on family reunification and preservation.
The purpose of the Sherwin-Williams Women's Club is to engage in philanthropic endeavors and to provide a climate where members can expand their leadership talents and develop an awareness of community needs. Over the years, thousands of women have made significant contributions to the club.
Since their first 25-member philanthropic project in 1912 to today, with over 300 members, their motto of "Ever Forward" remains true to their commitment of helping others. The Women's Club assists non-profit health and human services organizations within the community as well as national organizations during times of crisis.
Christopher M. Connor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Sherwin-Williams Company, said, "The Sherwin-Williams Women's Club is a terrific service group of dedicated associates that embody the company's values of commitment to our communities and reaffirms our Culture of Excellence and Guiding Values: Integrity, People, Service, Quality, Performance, Innovation and Growth. Their talent, creativity, enthusiasm, and warm hospitality has made a positive difference in the lives of people in need."
