The Sheraton Sand Key Resort Finds Sports Niche with International Beach Tennis Tournament
CLEARWATER, Fla., June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Well known for its pristine 10 acre beach and unparalleled hospitality, Sheraton Sand Key Resort played host to the 2014 Sand Key Beach Tennis Open on Saturday.
Steve Culver, Beach Tennis Pro and the Activities Coordinator for Sheraton said, "The event was a smashing success with some of the world's highest ranking singles and doubles players competing right here on our beach."
Winners include:
Men's Open Doubles Champions: Rick Simeon & Jan Macko both from Ft. Lauderdale, FL took home the Champions Trophies and split $700 in cash.
Men's Open Doubles Finalists: Carlos Rivera from Puerto Rico & Stefan Segall from Hermosa Beach, CA took home 2nd place and split $350 in cash.
Men's Open Doubles Consolation Winners: Steve Culver (Coach Rhino) & Jony Banos from Miami, FL took home the 3rd place medals.
Women's Open Doubles Champions: Beatriz Rivera & Lady Correa both from Puerto Rico took home the Champions Trophies and split $600 in cash.
Women's Open Doubles Finalist: Adrienne Simeon (President of IFBT USA) & Nahitza Macko also from Ft. Lauderdale, FL took home 2nd place and split $300 in cash.
Women's Open Doubles Consolation Winners: Alma Torres & Maria Elena Juarez took home 3rd place medals.
Mixed Open Doubles Champions: Carlos Rivera & Beatriz Rivera a brother and sister team from Puerto Rico took home the Champions Trophies and split $350 in cash.
Mixed Open Doubles Finalist: Jan & Nahitza Macko were runner-ups and split $200 in cash.
Mixed Open Doubles Consolation Winners: Rick & Adrienne Simeon took home the 3rd place medals.
The Clearwater/St. Petersburg Sports Commission hosted The Players Party Saturday night at Sheraton Sand Key's Turtle Bar where some of the big name competitors gathered to do a meet and greet with all the fans. A Red Bull Wings Team rocked the day with a DJ on the sand and Hooters' Ball Girls made sure the tournament stayed on track.
